View Cafe at Hinze Dam
Architectural Response to Context and Function
Design Strategy and Material Integration
The View Cafe project represents a focused architectural intervention within the established setting of the View Cafe at Hinze Dam.
This design initiative specifically targets the creation of a display wall for alcoholic beverages and drinking glasses at the cafe. Conscious efforts were made to select materials and design forms that harmoniously integrate with the existing raw concrete and timber elements of the cafe’s current construction. This approach ensures that the new display feature not only serves its functional purpose but also becomes a seamless addition to the pre-existing aesthetic.

View Cafe Feature Wall Upgrade: Integration and Function
The image showcases the feature walls at the View Cafe, a central element of this design upgrade. Protruding timber blades, formed in a wavy pattern, introduce a natural, dynamic texture to the space.
These blades, complemented by strategically positioned shelving, enable the effective display of beverages and glassware, while echoing the rippling waters of Hinze Dam, subtly connecting the cafe's interior to its picturesque surroundings.

Harmonious Display Design: Menu and Beverages
This image offers a detailed view of one side of the feature walls at the View Cafe. Here, a timber-framed menu board is situated adjacent to the display shelves, designed to house a selection of wines and other alcoholic beverages.
The use of matching timber for both the frame of the menu and the wavy patterned blades of the display wall establishes a visual continuity and cohesion within the space. This design not only elegantly exhibits the cafe's offerings, but also complements the minimalist architecture of the building, characterised by raw concrete and timber elements. This display solution was crafted with care to align with the cafe's existing aesthetic, all the while paying homage to its tranquil lakeside setting.
